When asked what life in Washington is like, I tell people that if you took "Tha Andy Griffith Show" and mixed it with equal parts of "Newhart" and "Northern Exposure" then you'd have Washington, Georgia.
Lots of great people, architecture and stories here. The following is a true story as related to me by my dear friend Robert Griggs. The setting is circa 1985 and the telephone company was still on a party line and you had to call "Clara" the operator for any information.
Griggs: Could you please give me Pam Eaton's phone number.
Clara: She ain't home.
Griggs: She AIN"T home? *Note that the slang usage of isn't is repeated with mild indignation. Griggs is a proper gentleman and frowns upon the butchering of the English language.
Clara: Nope. She ain't home. I just seen her drive by the winduh. Besides, it's Wensdee. She gets her hair did on Wensdees.
To this day I'm not sure if Griggs ever got Pam's telephone number.
Anyhoo - now that I'm a bit more settled in and have been forced kicking and screaming into the digital age (Thanks Rexy for recommending the Nikon D70s. It amazing). I am finally taking the time to cataloge some of the more interesting architecture of the town. I hope I do a decent enough job.
